Living up to its name, Skönhuset (Swedish for “the Comfortable House”), is all that and more. Skönhuset is bursting with modern-day amenities, while retaining its early 20th-century historic grace. This three-bedroom home embraces its Swedish heritage, as does Lindsborg itself, with celebrations of all kinds: Hyllningsfest, Midsummer, even a Swedish Luau in January! Throughout the year, Lindsborg finds many reasons to celebrate, so celebrate with us!

With a grandmillenial, cottagecore vibe, the Skönhuset house is the ideal accommodation for travelers and for professionals on temporary work assignments who choose the road less taken. From the porch to the original cabinet, guest will relish its history with modern updates.

Walking up to Skönhuset, you’ll step onto the porch, as wide as the house itself, with ornamental balusters and handrails, plus a table and chairs from which to wave “good morning” to your new neighbors. Walk through the entry door with a frosted window into the vestibule with the kitchen, dining area and coat rack.

A spacious, U-shaped kitchen provides all the modern amenities for any guest, including full-size, stainless-steel electric range, microwave, refrigerator and dishwasher. A coffee maker rests on the counter. Guests will prepare delicious meals with pots and pans stored in the kitchen cabinets. Inside the home’s original cabinet, guests will find plates, bowls, glasses and mugs for their meals at the nearby dining table suitable for four.

Guests can kick back on the living area’s sofa and armchairs with coffee- and side-tables and stream their favorite shows and movies on a Smart TV with Hulu+Live TV with no ads using our Gigabit-speed Wifi. The back entry from the living area provides access to the carport.

A full-size bathroom with walk-in shower is hidden behind the bookcase. This bathroom also serves the bedroom with queen-size Casper mattress.

Climb down the staircase near the dining area to the bedrooms, laundry and tornado shelter. Guests will have a great night’s sleep on a queen-size Casper mattress. Like the living area, each bedroom has a Smart TV for streaming services and Hulu+Live TV no ads. Guests may store their clothes in the large armoire. For guests on a workcation, each bedroom has a desk and office chair. As on the main level, each bedroom has an en suite bathroom with shower.

The laundry for Skönhuset has a full-size washer and dryer are part of the hall between the bedrooms, with plenty of room to fold clothes and towels.

The tornado shelter for Skönhuset is so much more than that! With a Smart TV, electric fireplace and comfy seating, it’s a second living area for guests.

On a pleasant day or evening, enjoy your time outdoors on the porch or at the patio just to the southth, between Skönhuset and Blomhuset. A propane grill can be provided upon request.

While decorated in the cottage style, the all-electric Skönhuset defines carbon-free sustainability. The original home was insulated to today’s standards keep the outdoor temperatures where they belong – outdoors. The interior is heated and cooled with high-efficiency electric heat pumps, often called minisplits. Water for the showers, sinks and laundry is warmed with electric water heaters, again integrated with heat pumps. Appliances are Energy Star certified and plumbing fixtures minimize water consumption. And if you drive and arrive with an electric vehicle, we can provide an EV charger with advance notice.

Skönhuset is not wheelchair accessible.
Skönhuset may not be suitable for toddlers as it has stairs.
Guests must be 25 or older.
No parties.
No pets and no smoking.

Prior to arrival, guests are provided with an entry code that will unlock the from and back doors. Be sure to lock the doors each time you leave Skönhuset.

Lindsborg, Kansas is an artist community that embraces its unique spin on all things Swedish. Guests visit Lindsborg for its festivals, shopping along Main Street and art museums, including the Sandzen Gallery (America's Van Gogh). Coronado Heights (a "castle" built by the Works Progress Administration during the Depression) is a popular destination for picnics and to soak in the view of farmlands and prairie. Larger cities of Salina and McPherson are a short drive away. Another destination is the Hutchinson’s Cosmosphere, the largest collection of Russian and American space memorabilia outside of the Smithsonian - including the Apollo 13 capsule Odyssey.

Guests drive to this destination. Lindsborg is located about 4 miles west of I-135. The closest airport is Salina Municipal Airport (SLN), approximately 20 miles away. The Eisenhower National Airport in Wichita (ICT) is approximately 80 miles away.
